I am a freelance translator and proofreader based in Lancaster, North West England. I am a native speaker of UK English and also work into US English with the help of my American partner. I have an MA in Japanese Studies and an MSc in literary translation, and have lived in both Japan and France. I began translating full-time in January 2018. I work with SDL Trados 2019 and Memcloud, and am confident with core tools such as MS Office.
I am eager to translate literary works which I love myself, hoping to give a new group of readers the same opportunities as I have had to marvel at beautiful imagery, explore an author’s vision of the human condition, and be touched and entertained. I am particularly interested in translating novels, short stories, and manga, in the genres of slice-of-life, fantasy, and magical realism. I hold an MSc (with Distinction) in Literary Translation as Creative Practice.
I use my training in creative writing to craft marketing translations with panache. I particularly enjoy working with culinary marketing texts for restaurants and hotels, as well as recipes. At the other end of the food chain, I have been proofreading texts in the fields of ecology and agronomy since 2008, and translating in these and other academic disciplines (including sociology and educational research) since 2018.
